Brooch Care & Styling Guide
A brooch changes the mood of an outfit with a single detail. Wear yours thoughtfully, and give it a little care between outings.
Care, gently
After wearing, wipe the brooch with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Keep perfume, hairspray, lotions and cleaning products away from the piece; put your brooch on last and remove it before bathing or swimming. Avoid soaking, polishing liquids and abrasive cleaners, especially around plating, pearls, enamel, glass or stones. For a piece that needs deeper cleaning, seek advice suited to its listed materials.
Fasten the clasp and store each brooch separately in a soft pouch or lined box, somewhere cool and dry. This helps protect finishes, stones and delicate details from scratches and moisture that can encourage tarnish.
Style with intention
Start with a structured lapel, sturdy collar or tightly woven fabric that can support the brooch without pulling. Test the pin discreetly first, particularly on silk, fine knits or other delicate cloth; a backing can help distribute the weight. Avoid loosely woven fabrics that may snag. Place the pin through a stable layer, close the clasp securely and check that the brooch sits comfortably without dragging.
Beyond the lapel, try one at a collar, on a sturdy hat band, or on a bag made of pin-friendly fabric. For hair, fasten it to a ribbon or fabric headband rather than pinning it directly into hair. One considered detail is often enough.
